Title: how many turns???
Post by: 87swb on November 29, 2011, 07:35:16 pm
hey all, i know its been a long time since i posted anything. i 've been having a ticking problem lately and i adjusted my valves to 1/2 turn but still heard it, so i went 1 full turn and now i don't think i can hear it or it's a lot quiter. i've done heard 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and1 full turn. is 1 turn too much? i also noticed a couple of rockers weren't oiling. what can i do about this?  this is on my 87 305 TBI with prolly 120-130 thousand miles on it. thanks

Did you check your oil level? What's your oil pressure? How are you adjusting them? Are you saying zero lash from the base circle of the cam + 1/2 turn?

the oil level is at the full mark. today with the motor warmed up, the truck in park, the pressure will hang around 30 maybe a lil below it. i adjust with the motor warmed up, loosen off the rocker nut till it clacks, then tighten till it stops, then from there i went 1 full turn in 1/4 increments.

I always thought about 3/4 should be sufficient.
