Title: starter problems

I got a 86 chevy 4x4 silverado its got a 350 and 700r4 trans. Ive been having starter problems with it ive replaced the starter cuz it was bad now it likes to grind when i try to start it the last week or so. Im gna try to put a different shim in it tomarrow if the weathers not bad. Any one got any ideas?

You could have gotten a bad starter, but I have learned in the past, shimming is everything!!
Did the grinding just start after you replaced the starter?

     Welcome from California, both suggestions are good, shimming to mesh the gears is always a good idea.  When you have it out this time, check the flywheel teeth for damage before reinstalling the starter.

I replaced the starter a month ago because it kept spining out. Put the new one in and its worked fine till now. I took the starter out and had it checked said its good. I had one shim in it. Put it back in with 3 shims it just spins put 2 shims in it grinds. ive heard if you have headers it will fry the starter. The flywheel teeth are kind of worn. My dad and brother are thinking the flywheel is bad and dont know if it would be easyer to pull the motor or drop the trans.

Welcome!
The bellhousing should have an inspection plate on the bottom for you to remove and get a look at the teeth on the flexplate (your automatic has a flexplate, not a flywheel)  :) Check to see if the flexplate is cracked. Either way, bad teeth or crack- it still needs replaced.
You pull the transmission to replace it. The flexplate bolts to the torque converter.

The "flexplate" bolts to the crankshaft, the torque converter bolts to the flexplate!  ;D
