Title: Radio Removal
Post by: bbohannon1 on December 29, 2011, 01:14:49 pm
1985 C20 Silverado. Has the AC vent in the lower left side of the gauge bezel. The plastic duct runs under the dash below the radio. I'm not the smartest guy in the room, but I can tell that radio housing is too large to just drop down. Do I have to remove the AC duct? Is that easy?

The A/C duct has to be removed.  Remove the center screw in the bottom of the filler panel below the steering column.  Set your e-brake to get the pedal down out of the way.  Being careful of sharp edges, grab and slide the duct to the right to disconnect it from the left A/C outlet.  Carefully pull the duct downward past the e-brake release rod that passes through the dash, then slide the duct back toward the left to unhook it from the center distributor housing behind the ashtray.  Installation is the reverse.

Got it, thanks Rich. Gave that duct a bath and took a utility knife to its jagged ABS molded seam. It's better than new now. Man, my radio is filthy. Time to get that thing cleaned up. I've got cool plans for it that I'll share when the time is right.
