Title: Heater / Vent fan not workey
Post by: apchas on December 30, 2011, 11:56:38 am
I replaced the fan motor, switch on controller and it still not working. I have 84 SB 4x4. I have power at the fan, Power at the switch. Motor is grounded. Is it the relay mounted on the AC evap box?

If you have B+ at the fan motor and a good ground then that means the blower motor is no good.

x2:  with power and ground the blower should work. ( if something else was bad, you would not have power at the motor ).  Are you sure when you put it in, you did not bind it somehow so it can not spin ?  Take it out and let it hang free, then try it, if it works then somehow when you installed it you got it bound up or something.

Make sure that the motor is actually grounded and the ground wire is not just attached to paint.

I'm having a problem with my heater, it work right up to a couple days ago it just stop. I'm getting power to the relay but the wire that's coming from the relay to the blower motor it has no power. Changed the relay twice, ran a jump wire from the battery straight to the B/M and fan works. I'm stumped ! 1980 chevy C10 Stepside -350-T350 A/T with A/C

for the life of me i cant think of the name of the part but its right next to the relays on top of the core box. if you tap on it, it should work if it does you have a bad connection in it., I posted this part before on here and this computer is screwing up so I cant/wont search for the post on here but when I get home I will try to find this out

On any speed? Check your connections at the relay and the switch.

Vile yes it's not working on any speed. When I'm driving I can feel warm air in the cab but moving the controls gives me nothing. I took my dermal and cleaned all the connections still not working.

Fuse is good and no B+ from purple wire at relay?

Nothing from the purple wire. But what I have notice is that the fuse for the heater is plugged into a Auxiliary Heater/AC fuse plug. It has live power, is there a chance that I could have came across 3 bad relays from Autozone?

So you're saying the fuse is good?

(I think it's ign 3) which would then mean you would have B+ at the HVAC control switch. Leaving the switch going to the relay and the blower resistor check the voltage. Put it on High speed key on engine off. Make sure the black wire at the relay has a good clean ground connection. Take a test light and see if the Orange wire gets B+.

Vile I tried that this morning and no power is at the orange wire.

Brown and Brown/white wire at the selector and speed control switch should have B+ key on engine off. Y or N?

BTW does the horn work?

With the key on and engain off, the wires you mention have no power

Your fuse is blown! Does the horn work?

The horn was disconnected it stuck one day and wouldn't go off. I just put a new 20 AMP in and still no B+ at the Hi/Lo switch.

How are you testing your fuses? Key on engine off backprobing the fuse with a test light?

key on, engine off with a test light. Looking at diagram I'm checking the Auxiliary Heater / AC
 There's no fuse in the ( B ) plug

It's working !!!! found a fuse in the upper right hand corner of the fusebox, it calls for 20AMP but there was a 10AMP that was blown..

LOL - You chased your tail but I bet you learned more than you ever thought you would about how your heater circuitry works right? Glad you're working again.
