Title: Tool box
Post by: 1979C20 on January 22, 2012, 06:59:22 pm
Well, since I got my truck reliable, I put tools etc. in a milk crate In the bed of my truck, I rat het strapped a spare tire against the front of the bed center with the back window, then used the excess strap to tie my milk crate to the tire. Well, I got sick of how white trash it looked and I talked my buddy out of a tool chest he bought for his wrangler for like 20 bucks. Is about 3ftW 1 1/2ftL and 1ft or so deep. So I centered it In my bed and drilled 2 holes and bolted it down.with 2 9/16 nuts and bolts. So now I keep my 100p craftsman tool set with me along with metric and standard hex keys, random nuts and bolt, spare belts, big screw drivers, small screw drivers, a small 12 tire air compressor, a 4 way, a hammer, silicone, all of.my parts recipts in a plastic bag  jumper cables, gas can(the tool box has a hole on the side at the top so I point the nozzle of the Store/Pour gas can out of that), a gallon of antifreeze/water mix, oil, power steering fluid, brake fluid, etc. etc.

Let me know if the pictures are waaaay too big, I was playing with the camer settings on my phone and I think I might have made the pixel rate too high.

Make sure you can lock it to protect your tools also!

i finaly found a locking tool tool box that bolts across the bed right behind the cab for my truck so my tools were out of sight and would stop walking.  :-\ works pretty good to keep all of my junk in!

I have mixed feelings on those type of tool boxes that bolt to the top of the bed rails.
If you plan on using your truck a lot for work or need tools all the time, then I think it is a good idea.  If you don't, I really don't like the looks of the box sitting on top.  I would try to make something for both sides behind the wheel wells that are out of site and easily accessible and locks up.
But like I said, it is just my taste, and they change from time to time.

I always wanted an in-the-bed tool box. I just never liked the way the ones that mount on the bed rails look. Besides, if.someone shoves a floor jack under those tool boxes the can just rip the bolts out and steal your box and everything in it.
