Title: Turbo Mufflers quieter than Camber Mufflers?
Post by: chevymotocross on January 27, 2012, 05:14:31 pm
I have a set of Thrush Welded 2-chamber mufflers terminated before the rear axle with no tail-pipes. They are super loud inside the cab.

I am wanting something cheap and quieter. Are the Thrush Turbo mufflers a good choice?

I will eventually have a full exhaust ran all the way out to the back but for now, my truck is lowered so I had to delete the tailpipes since they would not work with the flip-kit.

Why noy do turn outs before the rear wheels, that would get the exhaust out from inder the bed and you would have less drone in the cab. When is the exhaust the loudest inside the cab? At idle, accelerating, or cruising?

I will have to take a look into if I can route the piping out the sides. It's a bit tough without access to a pipe bender but I will look into it.

These 2-chambers are loud at all rpm levels. My cab is well-insulated as well.

It was my understanding that turbo-mufflers are quieter than chambers since the chambers are basically noise-makers.

Re-thinking your post here I think I am going to give the side exit a try. It should Not be hard to accomplish myself via a 90 degree elbow and piping. If it's not quiet enough, I can try the turbo-mufflers.

Either way, it should be a step in the right direction. Thanks!

You can buy pre-bent exhaust pipe of many sizes from almost any muffler shop, or aome auto part stores.

Yes, extend your pipes. Turbo mufflers are quieter, but offer a different sound. I originally had Flowmasters, went to Magnaflows, and switched back to Flowmaster with tail pipes.

Problem has been solved. Night/Day difference! No more drone or annoyance what-so-ever. Also, it seems to have pickup up a tad more low-end and gave the rear of the truck more character!

Almost ANY muffler that terminates anywhere under the truck will be loud as heck in the cab.  you could run straight pipes that terminated at the rear and out from under the truck and they would be quieter than your chambered mufflers.  add a tailpipe, or no muffler you buy except stock will be bearable.

I absolutely hate this as much as Vile hate visor's.   >:(

I dont mind it. The only reason I added tail pipes was because the fumes were entering the cab. On a 4 hour drive to Pismo, you get a nice headache...
