Title: Heat/cold/defrost mechanism lubrication

Anybody have a secret on whats the best spray lubrication to use on the plastic
moving parts that run the cables to the heater core box ?

If they are are working hard, it's my guess that the controls aren't the major problem. I would guess that the real problem lies in the cables. That said, I'd try some silicone spray on the plastic. You may need to take the cables off and lube them. Not a bad job if you don't have A/C. Disconnect the cable at the control and you'll be able to tell where the problem is.
