Alright this is absolutely stupid, I debated even asking on the forum because it seems like such a simple problem.
I took my driveshaft out, changed the u-joints, and when I went to put it back in the yoke would not slide onto the tailshaft. It only goes halfway and then just gets stuck.
I've spent 2 hours trying to figure out why, theres no keyed slot for it to line up with on and no debris in the tailshaft to stop it. Could something be broken?
Trans is a rebuilt 700R4.
This is driving me nuts, any help appreciated.

The answer may be in your question. My driveshaft has a "keyed slot for it to line up with" look closely with a flashlight. I don't know for sure on your truck; but mine does.

As 1980 said, most come with a "key'd" slot, but if yours did not, I would say you are binding it when trying to slip it back in. I always tell people, if something seems like it should be and you get frustrated, step back for a few minutes, take a break and then go back and see what you see different.
Your question is not stupid, but I got one on the same level as yours. Did you buy the right U-joint ?

AHA! GOT IT! you're right it was binding. somehow, I messed up the yoke. It still had factory plastic injection type u-joints, I didn't heat them before forcing the U-joint out of the yoke. Had to use alot of force on a 12-ton press, and something must have happened. Got another yoke to try and it fit like a charm.
Yeah it really wasnt a dumb question, it was just frustrating the heck out of me haha.

Glad to hear you got it fixed. I always say cooler heads can fix, and hotter heads can destroy. ( my tech's really hate it when I answer their questions with a statement like that ;D )
