Driving to the store - everything was fine
Came out and turned on my headlights -
both hazzard lights came on inside the dash and the bright lights were on too -
my temp, oil and gas gauge all went dead.
Everything is running fine.
Hazard lights are NOT on outside
Blinkers work fine / brake lights too
Turn off headlights - everything goes back to normal.
Can't find anything online ---- any help?
Thank you so much!
Oh - it's a 1978 suburban w/ a stock 400 4x4

Just a WAG. Check your dash and cluster grounds.
And, a... Welcome to the site!

Welcome from California wonkajay, I am with bd, first guess is grounds for cluster, second guess would be cluster itself.

Ugh. So tear it down or is there an easier way to install a ground? Like an alligator clip wire?
I'm from the seattle area, not sure why it came up CA. :)
Bogus. I kinda of knew it was this but I wanted to hear it from someone else.
Thank you for the help.

You are welcome for the response, but your question has me confused, you do know when you post in this forum that everyone can see your post right ?
It so happened that only 2 of us responded and that we both were from CA.

Only if you want to take the chance of starting a fire and burning your truck to the ground, I personally would not take the chance but, you will find on here that we tend to give correct advice on how to solve problems without being a "shade tree mechanic ". (and quick to respond when someone gives wrong information)
There are times where someone just can not afford, or does not have the skill to fix it right. We will give quick fixes in those times but with always a warning and kind of get what you put into it speech.
This site is very family orientated, that is why I and so many others like it so much, we tend to think that not only us are in out trucks but passengers also.
Good luck and if you need help with anything you know where to find us.

you can us the alligator clip to diagnose a bad ground. but you also have ground connections in the dash cluster pig tail. so you might want to clean those also
