While thinking about what I'll be doing with Earl's gaping radio hole, I think I've decided not to fill it with a radio at all. I have enough portable devices to keep me easily entertained, which can be removed and pocketed to boot... such as, my droid phone (mp3 music, videos, and an am/fm function), a Walkman mp3/video player, and a slightly larger ipod. Any of these can be plugged in to an amp, to power a set of speakers in the cab.
So.... what to do with the empty hole. So far, the three options I've considered are: small glovebox-type storage bin, small lockbox/safe, or just covering it up (with perhaps a switch panel) when I get around to working on the interior.
Any other nifty ideas?

Look for a radio delete plate... I see them from time to time on eBay...

Need any gauges?

My 74 has a "bin" built in where your air conditioner vent is above your controls. I love that little cubby hole. I am going to combining 2 trucks into one on this rebuild ( I want air ), and I am going to miss that space to put stuff.
I vote you turn it into something like those on trucks without a/c.

I mounted a speaker behind it, but I still need to make a cover for it. Might see if I can plasma cut one.

Before you cover it up, I'd take a look at whatever is under that bunch of electrical tape and see what's going on there! :o

Stereo wiring. Notice the ground wire is just wrapped around a hole on the sheetmetal on the lower right part of the hole. I'm leaning toward the above mentioned storage cubby, maybe something that can additionally hide a small-ish CCW pistol.
