Title: instrument panel bezel touch up silver lines
Post by: bbzchevy on February 18, 2012, 07:12:41 pm
if anyone out there is as anal as I.  I recently stumbled onto a little trick to dress up that instrument panel.
I have my dash out dyeing it black, bought new AC vents while Im in there, and I just couldn't help but do something about my instrument panel while its out.
( this is a 78) so it has the little silver lines around all gauges, and vents, radio etc..
I went to the local art supply store and bought a silver paint pen ( with rattle ball inside) its a pretty nice shiny silver paint.
With a steady hand traced over all lines.  huge difference. looks nice and new. better than buying a new one cuz new costs alot and is not an original piece of my truck.
if anyone reads this and gives a flying shoot, respond and I'll send pix of it.

Paint pens are awesome, I use them at work, I carry a yellow one (for marking things ) in my work shirt pocket everyday.  Nice tip and welcome to the site from California.  Pics are always welcomed here.

Welcome to the site.

There are many people on here, myself included, that share you affliction.

Please post photos... I had forgot about the paint pens.

When I did the dash cluster on my '73, I did the tedious job of masking around the silver parts and then spray painted them with aluminum krylon or rustoleum... I think it turned out reasonably well. As for the radio lettering I "dry brushed" the letters with a modeling brush using Testors white paint.  While parts aren't the chrome look like factory, they aren't the delaminated chrome that I had been looking at for years...   The photo is after about 7 or 8 years of being refinished.

I did that too, with a Pilot extra fine point pen. Came out pretty good.

I'm brand new to this site and wish I would have found it sooner. Interesting tip with the paint pen as I just did that to my 79 Chevy bezel about 2 weeks ago and then I find this website. Yeah, the paint pen works great and is easy to control. I even used one to touch up the raised letters on the Fuel Tank switch.
I wonder what else I can paint???

Did the same thing with silver model paint, but I only did the rims like it was from the factory. Didn't do the whole insides. Should have sanded and primed, cause now its all flaking off. Have to redo it soon.
