Title: Which plugs?
Post by: 76k104x4 on February 19, 2012, 09:48:14 pm
First off my 76 K10 has a 350 with a mild cam and a Edelbrock 550 carb I have long tube headers and a Accel distrubutor I have been using the Accel shorty header plugs but I've been hearing bad things about them I was told those where the only plugs you could use with headers due to clearance so basically I'm wondering what you guys with headers are using BTW my headers are the 100 dollar Flowtechs you get from Autozone thanks guys

I use regular plugs on my 74 with headers.  A couple of them are a little tight to get in, but go in.  Unless you have a built engine I have never seen a difference between the $2.00 and the $9.00 a piece spark plugs.  I just go with a good brand and use what is designed for the truck.
A lot of people get suckered in to buying expensive plugs when like I said, if it is not a built engine it doesn't make much difference in my book.

I'm just using AC Delco, forget which ones exactly. I have flowtechs as well and they are doing fine for now. They are a little snug, but are doing well.

Stock length plugs should work ok... I prefer mid-grade plugs like NGK. No sense spending a ton of money on plugs that make no real difference.

IMO opinion your plugs should match your heads. I use AC Delco platinum in my vortech heads and they work fine with my flotechs. I used all 90 degree boots and run them underneath the headers as well.

If you're not running high compression or boost where you'd be worried about detination, then ACDelco's would be the best pick.

ACDelco CR43TS or NGK UR4 if you still have the factory style heads.  TR55 if you're running vortec heads.
