Title: Pin striping for my 84 two tone
Post by: 86swb on February 22, 2012, 09:26:12 am
I bought my Father-in-Laws 1984 Chevy Long bed and it is a two tone red with bedge on sides and tail gate. What I am looking for is some new OE tape that was used to out line the paint. Looks like red stripes. The paint is not bad at all but still want to do a repaint with bccc. The truck deserves it and only has 76K "true" miles. My Mother-in-Law did not like riding in the truck so he only drove it to pick up things and gas etc.  He kept it in a car port. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Are you talking about pin striping?   Find it at the paint supply store.

Any auto parts store that has a decent paint counter should be able to order it for you through Scotchcal, or 3M. Even if they don't have a paint counter they should have someone that can order it.
When I say parts store I mean NAPA or one like that. Not VIP, or Auto Zone. They will look at you like you have two heads!

I buy all my tape from Allied Technology's. They are based out of Melrose Mass. I believe. They have a salesman that comes around, plus he lives about 5 miles from me.

Shave a piece of it off and take it in with you. that way it can be matched up with a 3M, or Scotchcal book of stripes.

Napa did not have anything but found something close on Ebay. I took the whole truck to Napa and the salesman was at a lost trying to find something close. Just want to thank all of you for your help. I think what I found on ebay and that I bought is close and will work. Thanks again

The part number is- 320506330415. It has black stripes and clear which will show the red when installed. My truck is red with beidge on the sides. What is on there now is red and black stripes over the top of the beidge. I think this will work.

Many dealers have someone they use for customers who want new vehicles striped. They come around the garages on a weekly basis. When my wife bought her Equinox, it cost us $20 to get it done. That was in 07 and it still looks great. They told me anytime I wanted something striped, just call ahead to see when the guy would be there. He had 1000's of colors and patterns with him and you could hold them up against your vehicle.
