I used a tow dolly to pull mine 7 miles once last year.  I rent them from an equiptment rental place in town becouse u-haul here almost never has one.

Folks at uhal told me they couldn't rent me one after I told them what I was towing. They put it in the system and it told them the truck was too wide??? Idk. I'm thinkin of just usin to straps and having someone drive the uhal truck while I drive the lwb

How far are you going? Is it really worth taking the chance messing up your truck, or worse...the back of the U-haul? If your renting a U-haul anyway to pull it, why not just pay a towing company to move it for you?
Just a thought, Lorne

Around here I do not think it is legal to us a tow strap or chain.  It is really not worth it to use them in my opinion.

Its about 30 miles which equals close to 200 in towing from a towing comp. Its 75+ .59 cents a mile. So tryin to be cheap I figured heck ill just tow strap. Budget is under 3k this is a run down so far...truck 700, engine 700, trans 450,( water pump, starter, fuel pump, 200) hope I can use an old 76 800 cfm buick carb I have, but I only will now when I hook it up may be too much idk. Hope the flywheel is good, torque converter cheapo from orielly 130, motor and trans mounts 40idk, oil(break in and after 60) trans fluid 50, manifold gasket. Cam 150 later on valve springs idk. See where this is going

I'm gonna just get the tow dolly. I messured the dolly and it was 68 inches wide. Hope the tires fit the width of the tow dolly.
Then I can get it home and see if I can get the engine to unlock and run. Its a long shot, but long as the block and heads aren't cracked it could be ca core for another 350

Keep in mind that in some states like in Mass the vehicle on the tow dolly must be registered and insured.
