Just got it yesterday about 12am. Stayed up all night washin and waxin it to bring the color back. "See pics. Its an 82 lwb 1/2. Painted grey nice seats, dash, headliner, wheels, and tires. The engine is locked up probably from when it overheated. Its a 305 with a th350. My plan is to take out the current eng/trans combo and replace them with a 350 with a comp cams high energy cam 260 and another th350 or a 700r 4. Idk if the drive shaft lenght will work for the 700, but that's the trans id rather have because of o.d.

Waxin tryin to bring back the color at 1:32 am

Looking good !!
I can relate. Working on a new vehicle into the wee hours of the morning.
Ahhhhh yes... the excitement of a new vehicle.
Although now that I'm almost 50, I get excited staying up till 10 oclock. Ha Ha !!! ;D
-
Yep I had a couple beers and free time so why not make use of time and clean up the truck. Now here's my ???. this sticker states the truck came with a 4 speed auto. But by looking under the truck I can see its a th350. Should I go and get a 700r-4? I think one trans is shorter than the other if I'm correct.
-
look at the pan on the transmission and look where the shift module is. a 700r 4 trans has a square pan, the th350 trans has the shift module on the back and a th400 has the shift module on the side of the trans.

The trans pan is square with one corner that's a 45 degree angle
-
ok thats a th350 then ;).

ok thats a th350 then ;).
I just started a new thread in the engine and drivetrain section. About the th350 and 700r4
-
Well that looks like a great start to a build. Hopefully you got it cheap enough with the seized engine. I love to get trucks that way, they are cheap and really only need an engine if you are lucky.
-
This is the tuck before I got to wax it... paid like 600 for it
-
man u guy in the south are so lucky!!!! ;D ;D ;D
-
nice truck.
-
Thanks. I'm takin everything off the engine now.

Looks like it is loaded with all the options. It should make a great truck when you are done.
-
Just ordered the comp cams high energy 260 can't wait. And I'm about to order the headers and intake.
-
Well I ordered the summit racing intake, headders, and chamber mufflers, a gmb water pump and some hood locks. Next trans fluid, breakin oil, motor mounts a new torque converter for the th350 and other things
-
If you keep ordering at this rate, you will have more parts than time to put them on. ;)
-
That's my goal... lol just joking I have the hemi guys comin by everytime I'm out workin on the truck askin what u break. Little do they know what I have planned... haha!
-
I should break in the cam with the summit mufflers I ordered. That'll really get to em. Man this is gonna sound sweet, it will endup dumped infront of the rear axle
-
Cam just came in(http://img.tapatalk.com/d036569e-3fb8-d55c.jpg)

That's exciting stuff right there! Nothing better than new parts like that to get your heart pumping.
-
Yep your right. I can't wait to get this all together

Cam specs if anyone is interested:)
-
Also have 5 two ounce bottles of ZDDPmax and 5 quarts of comp cams breakin oil on the way. Now I'm pricing out the small stuff like spark plugs and wires, engine and trans oil, distributor cap and rotor, intake gaskets, trans gaskets and seals, and such. I've gone over budget by $500 some how idk. Ohwell its all worth it
-
dont break in your engine with new headers. the mufflers should be fine, though.
-
Yeah that was one of my thoughts was baking off the header paint. I still have the exhaust from the 305, but idk if it will bolt up. Also the headers, mini starter. Intake, mufflers, spark plug boots, water pump, and a 3 inch exhaust pipe u bend "that I'm going to cut in half and use for turndowns" all just got here today. Talk about fast shipping. Picks to come...
-
Forgot to say Lord has truely blessed me and my family. I called my engine guy who has a shop down in Midlothian, tx and he is coming 40 miles away to my job to get the cam and go back and install it, then when he's finished he's gonna bring me the engine to my house 50 miles for an extra 25 bucks... making it an even $925 for a rebuilt 80's chevy engine with my cam installed. AMEN! Thank you lord!

Wow thats nice, should be a sweet little ride when your done.
-
Thanks
-
When u get around to puttin them headers on snap a pic if ya could.....mine hang really low on my truck and i am worried about lowering it with them as low as they are.
Thanks.
-
Sure what brand of headers do you have?
-
I have the Flowtech's Part # 11500 from O'Reillys
-
Have they held up good so far?
-
Ya there good headers just sit a little low hanging past the frame rails, that is what worries me about lowering my truck like i want to.
So thats why i asked about yours when ya get them bolted on....i can post a pic of mine tonight if ya want me too.
But they where a good fit for the price of them.
-
Ya cool! Post a pic. I'm wondering how my summit racing headers are going to fit. Guess we will see
-
Fyi for anyone on a budget build like me. I spent close to 600 at summit racing for the parts listed, except the cam"bouught from comp cams snd zddp off ebay"
-
Well engine rebuilder guy came by today and got the cam. He say it should be about 3 or 4 days. I told him take your time cause I'm in no rush. He said no problem. I asked him if he would break in the engine... he said yes "that's how we do it" by the time it gets back to you its ready to go. No worries. In my head I'm like YES! Then ihe said he's goinna put flat top pistons in it to bring the compression to 9:5:1 and asked if I wanted to shave the heads to get it to 10... I said naw 9:5 is good for pump gas that should be alright. Awsome backed with a one year warranty. Great deal!
-
Just made my turn downs from the 3inch u bend. They are about a foot long. I think they will add to the depth of the exhaust tone as I'm looking to achieve a deep rumble.(http://img.tapatalk.com/d03656c9-e42c-942f.jpg)
And just incase the truck gets stolen

Just found a link with a c10 with a 350, longtubes, summit mufflers... http://s891.photobucket.com/albums/ac113/mrcoryd/?action=view¤t=gmcexhaust.mp4
Man I can only imagine what my setup is gonna sound like :) I shoulda named this thread project "Shut Em Down"
Oh and please use some good headphones to get the real sound lotta deep bass from the exhaust :)

Well its in the back of the truck now I jus have to unbolt the oil pan andmain and rod caps to get access to the flexplate/ torque converter bolts

Well its here. The block and heads are after 87. He said I shouldn't have any issues. Now I have to get diff valve covers, gaskets, oil filter cover, and break it in. He say what he did was put it on a machine and spin it with oil pressure, but he didn't start it up and break it in. He said I should drive it around and that will break it in. Idk I think I'm gonna put it in the truck and break it in cause my engine stand is too small
-
Well spoke with comp cams tech and he said its ok to use. Machine for the bengine breakin. He said basically what is happening is the cam and lifter mating surfaces are estabishing a wear pattern, like when you do when you do the 2000k + rpm breakin. He also said its ok to drive it for like 30mins and finish the breakin with my 1590 breakin oil I have, so I guess all isn't lost.
-
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d03656ad-da6d-d335.jpg)Got my new valve covers... woohoo! Tomorrow the engine goes in and gets fired up for the first time
-
Fired the engine up today. Woohoo dang thing sounds like a beast! Maybe it was the open headers:) had the plug wires on the cap mixed up, but got them right :) pissed the neighbors off for about 20 mins. Lol! Got the timing right... 10 degrees initial. The bad. Have a oil leak at my oil pressurefitting on the block. The good I'm sure it can be fixed by tighning the brass fitting. :) it was a drop leak and the engine still held excellent pressure the whole time it ran. Oh for you guys askin how the headers hang... if I remember correctly they are on point and don't hang bellow the frame. Ill check tomorrow and get some pics. Wish I got some first startup video. I need to find another temp gauge setup. Mine couldn't hold water before I started the engine. The fitting and the sending unit were not mating right:( oh I scrached my headers putting the engine back in, but paint will cure that.
-
Well I took it for a test drive today. All is well except for a oil leak. So ill take time out to get that straight before I drive it around. Things gonna sound good.
-

Did you happen to see where the oil leak was from ?
-
Yeah I've got a goooood idea... you know the little oil pressure port on the back of the block? Well there is another port little bigger next to it. Ol buddy didn't put a screw in plug in that port. I was hoping it wasn't for oil when I saw it, but:(# so I tried to plug it with the cylinder head on:( using some metal epoxy puddy. It worked when I primed the engine with the oil pump primer, but when I fired up the engine it formed a small leak. Oil psi on my mechanical gauge is excellent. Just noe I've got to take the intake and head off to put a plug in that port. Question will I need to reset the rockers when I reinstall the cylinder head?
-
Ok guys took off the dizzy, intake, header, and cylinder head. Put the plug in the oil port that was leaking. Put everything back together today with fresh gaskets the builder bout me. Set the preload on the lifters and buttoned everything back up. Fired it up set the timing checked the water level and took it for another drive. All is well no leaks! Drove fine except it didn't want to shift out of 1st. Maybe the kickdown cable not being adjusted or the lockup not being wired had somethin to do with it. Anyhow still can't get the engine to idle down no matter what I adjust, and I need them exhaust pipes so I can go get some fresh gas. The carb will be sent off this upcoming weekend to everydayperformance for a rebuild and mod to suite my engine combo.
-
Remembered the trans modulator house was not hooked up. Guy said it would help set the piston rings.all is well
-
Well I welded the pipes and summit race mufflers on and took it for a drive... man these mufflers are LOUD! Its all good because that's what I was going for. Didn't dump them cause it was way too loud. (Close to open headers) so I did the side exit before the rear tires. Still its supper loud:)

We ll here's the first video clip on youtube. Just have it running in the driveway. Plug up to your car sterio or headphones when listening or just turn it up and wake up the neighbors:) like I do every morning

Just found some of the infamous 375/41 center plates and weights in a 1984 suburban. I installed them without setting the base timing and when I finally put my timing light on the tab my timing was too far advanced. Which would exchange the hard to start when hot. I retarded the timing down to 12° with my like new center plates and weights and medium springs from the moroso kit gives me 34° all in by 3,200 rpm. My engine loves its new timing combination.the idle is impeccable... It idles so low smooth when i'm at a stop light with my music on I forget the engine is ruining. Cruising now requires less pedal than before with the same about of vacuum. stomp on the pedal response is incredible, truck just goes. No pinging or knocking, yet I still want to sec what going a step richer in the secondaries and primaries will do. the engine also runs cooler in all rpm ranges. It really is like a new engine
