Hey quick question, im parting out my 87 r10 and my 74 c20. i have a guy that wants to buy the rolling frame and chasie with the posi rear end, and brake booster set up off of the 87 along with all the new parts i have to completly redo the front brakes on it and the motor out of the 74. the motor is a good runing 350 that runs great and has been well maintained and not abused only needs a gasket set and good paint job. The guy only offered me 350 for it all. what do u guys think that a fair price for the parts would be? $500?????

That question comes down to supply and demand that is in your area. Have you looked around to see if anything else like yours is up for sale and what they are listing it for ?
In my personal opinion (but I do live in Ca. where everything is more expensive) $300.00 is too low. I think $500.00 is even too low. It depends on a couple of things.
1: Are you wanting to just get rid of these items just to get some money, and if you don't take his offer will you be mad at yourself for not taking the money ?
2: Do you personally believe they are worth more money, or do you not care about these items and will have no use for them in the future ?
This is only my opinion, the rolling chassis with posi rear end and all the new parts are worth $500.00 by itself. The motor is a different matter, if it can not run so he can see it and test it, and you stating it needs a gasket set makes it less desirable. I personally would not give you more than $200.00 - $300.00 for the motor on your word only. Now if you were to do the gasket set so it could run and be tested and verified that it was a good strong engine, then it would be worth more money.
Like I said, depends on what you want, you are the seller. But in all I think $300.00 is too low for everything, unless you want to just unload it.
Good luck.

ok, the motor just needs rocker arm and oil pan gaskets, i still have it in the truck, so i might just wait to pull it till he can come see and hear it run. Right now im kind of hard for cash, owe taxs, and am in school right now, the guy said he could do 500, which i guess thats more than i will get if i just scrap the whole thing at once.

If your Ok with $500.00 then let him hear the engine run and get $500.00, like I said it depends on you and what you want for it.

A stock runnin 350 in my area of pennsylvania is worth only 250-350 rolling chassis is about the same price here so to me 500 is reasonable but like bake said if your happy with it take it also check out what stuff is going for in your area as well so you know what to charge.

In NH $500 dollars would be top dollar for a 2wd rolling chassis with a 350. I have a couple good motors that I can't even give away. If they were in something so somebody could hear them run it might be different. Biggest reason for that is all the local race tracks all went to sealed crate motors and there are a ton of built 350's around. Then on the chassis...if it were a 6' 4wd then it would be an easy sell. Seems like in NH if you have something for these trucks that you want to sell, then you can't. If you are looking for something you can never find what you need. Murphy's Law!

2 points: #1- as stated, a relationship between a buyer and seller is always a little tricky (especially if one or both parties are smart), there is a fine line that you have to find so both parties have a win - win situation. But the difference lies with the seller always, it lies with the seller because the seller should always get their way, either the seller just wants to unload the stuff or wants what the stuff is worth, the seller has possession of the stuff therefore should feel like they have got a good deal. It is the buyers responsibility to make the seller feel this way (the buyer wants it or else they would not be talking to the seller).
#2- your friend at the junk yard is generous, hopefully you know what is valuable and can take that stuff off and try to sell individually, It is always a waiting game with selling "parts" instead of something complete, but if you can wait it out you can get more money in the end by parting something out.
