Title: how rare is this bed

I am investing in a 78 chevy longbed, guy said it was a canada truck and its a longbed fleetside with wood bed bottom? Never heard of it...any idea how many were made?

there were quit a few with wood beds, i have a 74 with one, just depends on what it was ordered with from the factory

Somone told me it was to move livestock? Because they can't stand on a metal bed? Makes sense though explains why there are so many stepsides on old ranches

the guy that  i got my 74 from liked it beter than the steel floor because over time if u use it alot the steel floors get beat up and busted down and with the wood floors if u bust a board, u just unbolt it and replace iti kind of like them beter... :-\

      Fleet sides with wood beds were options that had to be ordered that way.  Fleet sides came with metal floor unless ordered special.  All step sides came with wood beds.

I've only seen the wood floored '73-up fleetside bed in photo's.

Maybe there were certain regions where they were more popular?

What'd be really cool would be to find a wood floor fleetside bed with the bedside toolbox...
