What should I do? Stay with the regular starrter and relocate the solenoid or get a mini starter? I have headers on the way so space will be a factor.
-
Most header manufacturers make their headers to clear factory starters so it shouldn't be an issue.
If I HAD to do something, I'd get a mini starter. Smaller size, lighter, and more torque.
Just my opinion.

Cool just ordered a summit mini starter, heat shield wrap, fiberglass spark plug boot protectors, and a hooker ac bracket. Does anyone have a problem with the driver side ac and power steering brackets when they switched over to headers?

You can use a longer bolt and spacers for the front header bolt to make up for the thickness of the old manifold flange, or build a bracket like I did that doesn't use the header mounting bolts to hold it. It works good for the power steering pump, but you might want something a little more if it's going to support the AC pump also.
There's pics of it in here:

The mimi starter is a good choice but it wouldn't hurt to relocate solenoid as well to keep it way from all that heat. After long trips the heat can make for hard starting but most of the mini's can handle a lot more heat than the oe's.
A/C...The only other thng that you may need to do with the A/C brackett is grind to clear for the size of the header tube. I had to take away a good bit of metal to get my brackett to slide back over the tube. If I'm not mistaken you can order an A/C bracket specifically for header swap instalations, which is what i'm going to do because i may have taken away too much metal to truely support the A/C under load.

make sure your starter wiring is away from the header, and make sure it wont bounce around. heat shield wrap works good for the starter.

In all my years of owning Chevy's (25+), I have never used a mini starter or a remote on any of my "street" vehicles.

Thanks guys. I've got the parts on the way.:) should al be here by the middle of next week! I'm gonna just use washers and a long bolt for the ac and power steering brackets as I feel that will be the easiest way to go. I've got all the bolts and stuff out now its just a matter of removing the engine and trans. There is a three wire connector on the drivers side of the trans. What is that for? Shifting or some thin? I ask because I want to delete all the wires I can

those sre for lock-up and yes you want to keep them

Thanks! Ill keep them. Ill trace them back and find where they go:)
