I am thinking about mounting my battery to the frame. Would there be any problems with it getting wet and dirty? I am only moving to do a ram air set up and its in the way of one of the hoses getting to the core support. Helpfull tips would be nice
If it matters its a 1985 k-10 with a 350

I would say being lower increases the chances of debris and moisture from roadway, but if you mount a battery box first to install it in, then moisture and debris will have little or no effect. I mounted 2 battery boxes in my fishing boat to keep batteries free from water, they have remained dry and no problems over 3 years time. The boxes were about $18.99 ea (they are plastic) and do the job i want.

Vile has one on his 74... page 25

Mine stays clean, its where the passenger side fuel tank would be. Mines more of a tray / bracket, and i have jumper posts under the hood.

You shouldn't have any trouble with the battery in the stock location.

I noticed a battery mount in a catalog I just received. It'd go great in the right fuel tank space, and it'll slide down with the battery for easier access. It had me fondly (riiiight) remembering the batteries in our old DC3. They're in drop mounts under the fuselage... a real treat when you need to jump start the airplane and you're flanked by two very large props turning when it comes time to unhook.
But I digress.

The only thing to remember when mounting a battery and using a box or other protection, batteries can not be in a completely sealed box, they need to be able to release fumes, if not they will corrode the interior of the box.

haulin it that is the same look that i am going for. only thing is my battery is a lot bigger. the po that had it be for me put a bigger battery in it and i really do not want to buy a new battery too. plus the box i have now will mount to the frame nice and all i will need to get is some cable to hook every thing up.

This is a curiosity question, do you not want to buy a new battery because of the cost ?
Have you priced out the cables and mounting hardware and labor time to relocate the battery and box compared to a new, correct size battery ?

bake74 yes i do not want to buy a new battery. i kinda got a cost idea. all i will need is the cable which is about $30-$40. every thing else i have laying around.

Only problem I see to look out for is this: whatever you drive through, the tires will sling it right onto/into the battery. so you may want to make some kind of shields to keep the batt box itself from getting beat up. I know my gas tanks have all kinds of dents, skins, etc from just being under the truck.
