Title: What Stereo Install Kit?
Post by: ehjorten on March 16, 2012, 02:37:18 pm
So I did the install on my single DIN stereo for my '77 a long time ago and used the www.installer.com (http://www.installer.com) METRA kit #87-99-3052.

As yall know that model basically requires you to remove the DIN cage to remove the Dash Bezel (unless you make some mod's to do otherwise).

I just got the new Pioneer DEH-P9400BH stereo in the mail for my '91 Crew.  And I have a question???

Yall know that my '91 Crew has the cut-out around the dash bezel for the radio, so that you don't have to remove the radio to remove the dash bezel, right!  If I lookup on Installer.com for the kit it directs me to something totally different, but I am thinking that it is because of that weird 4 year period after '87.

*****Question: Should I be using the same 87-99-3052 kit for my '91 Crew?  I have never got behind the radio in this area with this different dash bezel.  I am thinking the answer is yes.  I just don't want to get into tearing my dash apart and then realize I have the wrong kit.  I know that you can make your own and all and get by, but that METRA kit works REALLY well and makes for a very clean and solid install and it is less than $20.

How about this...does anybody have a picture of what the metal dash looks like under the dash bezel on one of these trucks with the large rectangular opening around the stereo?  I'm guessing it is like 87-91 or 88-91 or something.  I've got a stereo in there now from the previous owner and I am just trying to collect all of the bits I need before tearing into her.

Erik, look up a Suburban instead, they was just 1 version of the Suburban during this time.

You want the 99-4500 or the 99-4544.  It is for the 89-91 Suburban with the DIN + 1/2.

http://www.metraonline.com has more listings...

Just came across this thread. starting my own stereo project on my 90 crew/ interior seats are pulled have viynl floormat 2 piece, dash is factory square for din radio already. My question is my plans call for possible amp and bass speaker along with corner 6x9 what wires should i run to the rear ahead of time so they are there when it comes time for the hook up process. And the reason i ask this is because specific to the crew cab it so difficult to try and fish wires under the vinly front to back because of the distance

Pholliday:  Plan it all out ahead of time. You will need appropriately sized power and ground wires and pos and neg speaker wires along with a remote turn on wire and good quality pair of RCA's and if your amp has one a bass knob runs back to the dash.
