I've had far newer vehicles, zippier... more fuel efficient... better equipped (stereo, etc)... yada yada yada, but when I need to get out of the house and sit for a while, my truck is *always* where I go. I like my little HHR. It drives nice, has a real nice options package, leather seats, etc... but it isn't so much a place to *be* like Earl is.
I can kinda be myself when I'm sitting on that big bench, draping my arms on the steering wheel and enjoying a view out of the cab that I haven't seen in anything else I've owned... especially being 6'4".
When the weather's nice, I suppose there isn't a soul on this forum who hasn't just gone out and chilled on the tailgate for a bit.
When I was a young'un in my '74, my truck wasn't just a truck... it was a rolling hangout, and I felt *exactly* the same way about it. If I needed a place to be with my thoughts, there I'd be.

The only vehicle I've ever owned that I enjoy more, and that is more comfy than any of my 73-87s is my 55! ;D

when people just get on my nerves i just go out to my truck turn on my boombox radio and just sit there and have a cigarette or two and then im good. but the best time i have is when i actually work on my truck. when i first got my truck i had to do alot of work to it and it is what helped me to get where i wanted to be in automotive mechanic

I am a truck guy through and through. I have driven trucks all my life with the few exceptions of other type of vehicles. I have owned a lot of hot rods and off road jeeps and such, but my trucks are always where I go to take a "relaxing drive", so I know what you mean and am right there with you.

My truck has always been my comfort spot. I always feel better driving it (when the morons are off the road) so I have a habit sometimes, of taking off at 1:00am and riding around for an hour or two just cruising.
This habit has caused many problems with previous girlfriends because they always accuse me of going off to see my other girlfriend. well, all i can say is the trucks still here after them. I took one of them on the ride one time, and she complained the whole time, this is stupid, lets go home and goto bed.
None of them HONESTLY thought i was out enjoying my truck, alone. I will keep this habit until I cannot drive anything, anymore.
Funny part is, I'm just cruising, enjoying the seat, steering, ride, view, and good tunes. that's really all it takes for me. If I have my truck, I know everything will be OK.

Only vehicle I've EVER done this in besides my 77, 87 and 78 Chevy Truck is my old 69 mustang. yeah it was comforting too, might have been the massage from the rough cam at idle...ha.
I had my old 77 back in high school, back when riding in the back was legal and not even looked at by cops. So it was very common to have 3 of us in the front and 10 or 12 in the back headed for the lake. also back then you could back the truck up to the beach, so we partied around that truck all weekend, every weekend. dents and scrapes everywhere, but i wouldn't have painted over them for anything, cuz i knew where each dent or skin came from and there was a laugh behind every single one. that truck had a rollbar in the back too, so it was common to have 3 or 4 people standing, hanging on to that thing catching bugs in their teeth on the way to where ever we were going. ;D
