Title: oil pump priming

should i prime my used motor before i put it in. i drained all the oil and bout to fire it up weds.its been sitting for a month

Well, it wouldn't be a bad idea, esp. if it's used and you've never run it before.  If it's been in your truck all along and just been sitting for a month, you probably will be okay unless your outside air temps. are really low.  I've let my own truck sit for several months and have never had a problem on restart.

no i bought it off a guy it ran i heard it. but ive redone the gaskets and added an intake.thats y i was thinkin to reprime it

Someone may disagree, but I don't think in that case it is necessary.  It certainly couldn't hurt though.

Cant hurt. its easier when its out of the truck. remove the valve covers to ensure proper oil flow and make sure you rotate the engine while you prime it.

The only thing I would worry about is poking a hole in the oil pan while installing it and 5 quarts leaking everywhere...

If you already have the distributor out I would prime it.

If it was running as little as a month ago, I say don't worry about it. I start my vehicles regularly after sitting a month or more. new starts, and stuff that's been sitting for several months? Yeah, time to prime them. But something that's been sitting for a few weeks is not gonna get hurt.

well i didnt prime it but it fired ran it 15 mins no prob now time to tune
