Title: 6" lift... Am I doing it right?
Post by: Thet on March 20, 2012, 11:05:16 pm
I want to do a total lift of 6" for my 1980 Scottsdale.

If I did a Skyjacker 6" lift in the front with a shackle flip in the rear with 2" lift springs, can anyone see any red flags with that set-up?

I'd assume most kits for the lift will come with blocks for the rear, but I'd just buy the 2" leaf springs for the back. They need freshening up anyways.

Also, from what I'm reading, the Skyjacker provides a nice smooth ride. I definitely don't want a super rigid ride. Can anyone recommend any other lift kits other than Skyjacker? It seems like both the Tuff and Rough Country kits are hit or miss.

ORD has a pretty nice shackle flip for around $ 190, they sell some cool stuff

I currently have a 6" spring with a 2.5" ORD flip to get to 8" on a one ton. I also had  a 3/4 ton frame with a 8" spring. In my opinion the 8" spring rode better. You can get 6" springs for yours. And these were both Skyjacker springs.

was talking about the new 4" springs and flip kit together. Compared to the cost of just 6" springs

I haven't priced them yet. Just kind of throwing it out there. Somewhere I read said that it'd ride better with the flip kit.

I would like to know the answer to this question too.
I always heard that all spring kit is the best ride, since I need to decide which way to go with mine, if anyone has experience with both, I would love to hear their opinions.

The shackle flip is allot stiffer. Shackle lifts offer more articulation and you can get more lift with a smaller spring pack. So it kind of depends on what your doing with the truck.

Skyjacker is good to go.

I had 8" softrides on the front of my '77.

If I ever lift another squarebody it will get Skyjacker, no doubt about it.
