Title: reasonable prices for body shop to replace rockers/cab corners
Post by: Townsend600 on March 24, 2012, 02:14:26 pm
About how much should a body shop charge to replace the rockers and cab corners on a 86 one ton.  I found a truck reasonable priced but the bottoms of the doors, cab corners and rockers are shot.

It has a dana 60 front w/ detroit lockers and 4.88 gears, 14bolt rear with detroit locker and 4.88's, 700r4 trans and a 383 roller motor with less then 10k on it. and 8" lift springs  he is asking $3500, is this reasonable also the paint is starting to peel.  I intend on sanding the entire truck and shooting a coat of primer and then a heavy coat of OD green Al's liner on the entire truck followed by a set of 20x12's and 38's.

if it needs body work how much thats the question. have to see the insides also. the axle set-up can cost about 1k for both axles then about 1200+ for the lockers so just in axles your prob looking at 2200-2500 for used axles with new lockers. now he did say it only has 10k on the motor he prob wouldnt say it has 100k on it if it did. you cant take anyones word anymore. but 3500 seams about right for the setup

If the engine is less than 10k on it, do a compression test and leak down test.  They should all be about the same in each cylinder with less than 10k on engine.  If not then I would worry about the engine.
If you think $3500.00 is ok for the truck then it is Ok, But it never hurts to try to get it for less, if he is firm on the price and you don't think it is worth it, then that is when the whole "seller vrs buyer" thing comes into play.  Without know more about the truck or seeing pics,it is hard for anyone here to say it is worth it or not.
Irish is right, the axle's alone to most people are worth $2 - $3k, so there is something to think about.
