Greetings from Jefferson City, Mo. I have a 1985 GMC Sierra Classic 4x4 that I bought off craigslist. The owner previous to the person I bought it from replaced the 305 and automatic with a 350 and four speed, haven't yet ID'd the tranny it in now. I've done a bunch of work to it so far. Replaced plugs, wires, new carb, new steering box, brake lines, front calipers, front brake pads, new shocks, steering stabilizer, new rear leafs, pulled the bed and repainted the back half of the frame, painted the underneath side of the bed, dropped the gas tank and painted it, new gas tank supports and straps, the list goes on and on. By the time I'm said and done I'll have a brand new 1985 GMC. Had an issue with it yesterday that I posted in electrical under fire damage. This site has been a big help so far.

Your manual transmission is likely a SM465. Does it have a granny-low and 3 other forward gears?
