I have a 1980 c10 i am about to buy a dual exhaust kit and run dual glasspacks but the kit i am wanting to buy says it fits 1973-1977 2wd i need to know if thats because its just not compatable or just because the kit doesnt include catalytic converters and stock my year model had one. I didnt think there had been an exhaust system change from 77-80 besides the catalytic converter. Would the kit therefore be compatable with my truck?

I assume your trans is the TH350, as far as I know the only difference when looking up exhaust systems for 73 - 80 was the catalytic converters. I could be wrong, but I believe the frames are the same, the only difference would be 2wd vrs 4wd, and transmission set up's. (difference in size of transmissions and mounting)

have you checked with your local auto parts store? mine had an entire dual exhuast kit made by hooker with no cats for about $200.

can you tell me what auto parts store that was?? i want to run duals on mine as well. i saw a complete kit on summit for like $300 i believe...for headers all the way back. but then i'd have to find somone to install it for me for a decent price. the local muffler shop said they could do $400 for either magnaflows or flowmasters...but i'm sure that's just dual out muffler and 2 exhaust pipes. i kinda want to go for true dual exhaust...

I believe it was advanced auto parts. eep in mind if you order it from anywhere you'll need to add shipping, might be about 100 added to the cost.

Why not long tubes if you're doing the entire exhaust?

I don't know if the exhaust is currently available but check it out anyway. I think it was about two years ago since I checked. Check them for headers as well. Even if the price is higher locally you'll probably come out ahead because you won't have to pay shipping on such large parts.

I used a similar kit on my '73 and it works pretty well. It's all mandrel bent tubing. I've put two kits on like these and it takes a little time to fit everything up, but you can get everything set in the way you like it.

Sorry if this is a question but is there an advantage to running long tube headers rather than shorties? This is my first build and im not familiar with performance exhaust. And to jason s is that kit weld free or does it need to be welded together? I am a good welder but I dont have a shop or decent mig or tig setup seeing as im still in high school. So I need a bolt up kit. It really limits my choices.

Long tubes give better performance, shorties aren't much of an improvement over factory cast iron. Most kits are designed to be clamped together. The header back kit he posted comes with 6 clamps so I don't think its an exception.

Thanks this is the exact reason I use this site. Im new to restoration and mods so without your help I would've never found that setup or known to go with long tube headers. Im going to order it today after school.

Jaredts correct about the kit being weld free.
They'll come with hangers, u-bolts, etc. With the exhaust crossover included, the kit I installed has a quite a few clamps for now. I'll weld everything up later when I have my welding equipment setup again.

this is great info...and colton hicks asked the exact question i was gonna ask in reference to if this kit could be bolted on. this seems like something i could do in the driveway with some jack stands. so with this kit...the only other thing i would have to purchase would be the 2 mufflers? and...where are the exits for the exhaust? is it in front of the rear tire of behind? i have an 8 ft bed...so i kinda assume in front...
