What all is needed???? Dose anyone have a list of things they had to do???
This is what I have. 1987 V20 4x4 6.2 th 400 with shift kit. I'm planing on swapping for a SB or maybe a BB.
What do I need to change? Anything with the tranny ?? I've read that some say I need to do something to make the th400 shift different. What about the PS , radiator, wiring, frame mounts, and anything else I will need to do???? I know I will need to clean the fuel tanks, but what about the sending units in the tanks??
Any info would be very helpfull.....

Your sending units are good to go.
The TH400 uses a kickdown switch on the throttle linkage, you'll need to swap that. Also, you will need to add a vacuum modulator to the TH400. I am not sure where the TH400 gets it's modulator signal on a diesel, but it is vacuum on a N/A gasser.
You will need to swap the frame mounts to gasser type.
The diesel radiator can be made to work. It is much larger than any of the gasser radiators, so that is a + for you.
You will need all of the gasser brackets for the A/C, P/S, and alternator.
Aren't you going to swap a 427TD?
-
No I'm not going to go with the 427 TD. After reading up on it more, and more I think I might go with a 73 454 with 049 heads. I found one on craigslist that is board +.30 over and has everything but a cam, push rods, and lifters, intake & Carb. The guy said it's ready to put together. He wants $650 for everything, I'm thinking that sounds alittle high but maybe not.
If I can get it for a little cheaper price I might go for it.
Ok so my RADIATOR will be good to go, Yeah that is a +....
What about my starter and alternator??? The auto parts store shows different part #'s.

Just make sure there are no cracks anywhere. Also ask him why he didn't finish putting it together? There's always a reason:)

Here is a link to his car that he is also selling.

What do you think 454Man ????
I talked to him over the phone and he sounds like he is legit, but we all know how that goes???
-
Well it looks God but if its going in a truck I'd only put a for bolt main block in. less to worry about when towing, tire burning, and just having fun. Imo 2moro bolt main engines are for cars.
-
Yes I'd rather have a 4 bolt main block, but they are very far and few between to find.. 2 bolt mains are NOT just installed in cars. There where in alot of 2 bolt main blocks that came in trucks from the factory. The block I'm looking at came out of a 1ton truck. A few years ago I bought a 454 out of a 1980 1ton tow truck and it was only a 2bolt main.
When I was a kid growing up mom and dad had 77chevy with a 2bolt main 454 that I use to beat the snot out of. That truck had over 200,000 HARD miles on it and it still would walk away from 5.0 MUSTANGS all day long. I won alot of races with that old 77 454.
2bolt mains can handle up to 600hp & 600tq with out any worries. I'm not worried one bit with it only being a 2bolt main, this truck will only be pushing maybe 400HP & maybe 500TQ. It will be a work horse.
-
Hey relax... you did ask for my opinion. That's just what id perfer. I'm sure the 2 bolt man can handle so if you think its a good deal then go for it. Did he every say what his reason for not finishing the project was?

That '73 454 with 049 heads can be made to be NASTY.
My 454 in my sled puller is out of a '73 C20. It has 049 heads. As I say, it makes about 550hp on pump gas.
Awesome, awesome street setup. I have a Crane roller valve train, and turning 7,000rpm is no problem.

Your alternator is gtg. You will need a different starter.
