Title: What shocks should I use
Post by: 1980c10 on April 06, 2012, 12:39:53 am
My 3 year old shocks with around 10k miles on them are garbage. I have monroe gas matics in the truck now.
The truck is a 1980 2wd swb 350,  5 speed. The front shocks are dead and all four squeak. The rear shocks actually work fine, just noisy. I am considering KYB or Bilstein at the moment.
I dont know a whole lot about shocks so please send some feedback my way of your experiences with any brand, especially if you've had them a long time.

Personally I don't like KYB shocks, Bilstein shocks on the other hand I have had great experience with.  They seem to last a long time for me.  I have tired Monroe and several store brands, Bilstein shocks always seem to last and feel better even after a few years of service.

I had extremely good luck with my Edelbrock shocks, unfortunately I don't think they are manufactured anymore. I'm actually trying to find a good set of shocks to replace them on my Suburban.
