Title: Inside the bed Box side to Bed Gasket

I'm going to be painting my truck soon and would like to re-seal the inside of the bed where the box sides meet the bed. The sealant almost like caulking that seals the bed is cracked and missing in most of the bed. The question I have is what is used to seal it and should I tear out the old stuff first? I know it will be quit a task to pick all the old sealant out, just wondering if it would be alright to re-seal over top of it. I was thinking of using gasket maker because it would bond pretty good to the metal surfaces, any ideas on what would work best?

Seam sealer is what I used.  I peeled all the old out and put in new.

I used this on my bed:

Clean clean clean the area out and scrub it and let it dry WELL.  Then put a bead of the stuff above in the gap and work it in with a wet finger.  I just worked it all smooth with my wet finger and when they painted over it, you can't tell where the seam is, looks like one piece between the floor and the side.  Held up perfectly for 4 years now...

Pretty much any seam sealer that can be smoothed out or applied and not leave brush marks behind will be similar to the original. If your old stuff has sections that are still in great shape just do the bad sections, and blend the new over the old were they meet.

Thanks for the info, How many tubes did you need for the whole bed?
