Title: Whats my 6.2 worth $$$$
Post by: 1987V204X4 on April 09, 2012, 10:06:47 pm
I'm planning on pulling my 6.2 and going to gas. What can I get out of it?  It is a 1987  V20 4X4 with 81,680 original miles. Smokes on cold starts only then runs good. This truck has never, ever been driven in the snow. What should I ask for it???

Whatever you can get someone to pay. I wouldn't ask over a 1000. These aren't the most popular diesels and I would make that price very negotiable. You can always check your local craigslist or ebay to see what they are going for.

I would check locally to see what something comparable is going for, it might be more money or less than a $1000.00.  Then you need to decide if you want to part with it for that amount or what amount you want.  I would personally say a little less, but that is me, that is why like wildcat said check local around your area.

$500
There are lots of low mileage Military trucks with the 6.2 that are getting parted out. The pick ups have Dana 60/14 bolts with 4.56 gears. Guys are buying these trucks for the axles & selling off the rest.

Yeeeeah maybe I ought to clarify. I would personally keep it running in the truck with an 800 dollar OBO ad around ks, so people could here it run, check pressure, temp, for oil leaks, and maybe offer to do a compression check if you have a tester. Harbor freight has one for 30 bucks. If it is a solid engine and someone offers 500. I would ask for money upfront and pull it. Just to make sure they are serious. Then again you might live in an area where there are more of them then here. Check local ads.

Open up the oil pan and check for cracks in the webbing area.  If it's crack free, it'll be worth a lot more money.
