I'm going to tackle puting 6x9's in my 76 K10 (really a 77 with 76 cab),

I found a Brace i had no clue was there

It started to rain out so i quit for today...and i cleaned up the cuts a lil better...More pics soon to come

That brace is why Kaptkoas says he would never put speakers in a door. Some people love them in the door and some hate them in the door. To each his own. Make sure when you mount the speaker it mounts through the door skin and that brace so it does not vibrate going down the road and kill your speaker and sound like you know what.

Most people don't like speakers in the door because you have to cut the hole. I didn't put speakers in my doors in my 87 and but did in my 77 and 78 and guess which truck had a terrible sound quality? the 87
Don't let them discourage you, the bracket isn't a problem in the least. just make sure the bolt holes you drill in the skin are also through that bracket so the screws will go in right.
Seeing as there's no room in these trucks for a sub if you are tall, in the doors is the only way to get any bass without a sub. my 87 had so little bass it was like a hand held transistor radio. I had a sub box in front of the seat which meant even with a bench only 2 could ride.
in my 78, I have high powered 6x9s in my doors and get complimented all the time on my sub sounding great
, even though I dont have one...lol
New cars all have speakers in the door for one reason... it sounds the best there.

Good luck man! It's a bit of a pita but its worth it. I hate the kick panel thingys, they take away floor space and dont sound as good as in the doors.

welp i got one speaker in...i kept having too cut an cut and cut bigger holes each time to get a snug fit

Looks good man. Only trick I found on my 77 was making the two speakers match, locationwise....
As long as you had to make the hole BIGGER, you're OK. Making holes smaller is where problems come from...:)

im on the fence about cutting anything, my dad always taught me it was a bad idea...hmm i do enjoy how that looks. right now i have pyramid audio speakers under the front seat my dad put in there.

6x9s can sound good in doors because they have the cone area equal to an 8" woofer and the doors offer the most volume of air in the cab for a speaker to play in. Sealing up the holes in the doors with aluminum sheet siliconed to the door metal to make it more air tight is even better. And a beefy constructed speaker always helps too, with a decent amount of power behind it.
I have a pair of 7" B&W woofers in my kick panels and they can get down low, just not all that terribly loud. I did have it measured once at an IASCA competition and just those 7's hit 122 db lol.

You can only put them in that location if you have manual windows, right? The doors I picked up for my truck were off an '86 gmc with manual windows and already had holes in them for small, maybe 3-1/2" speakers. Now that they're on my truck with power windows a speaker would have to be super shallow to fit there and not hit the regulator and screws for the window motor.

Im not shure i know they work on the doors with OUT POWER windows

I'm about to try that soon but with 6.5" round speakers rather than 6x9s. I have 4" speakers mounted right below where the seatbelts mount (on the b-pillar). Got that idea from the new Chevy trucks. I may have to move them lower if I'm getting blasted in my ears though. I do plan on using a sub.
Anyone use a baffle behind the speaker? I've heard that it sounds like crap outside of the door when you put door speakers in. Also heard that water will ruin them. Any of those rumours true?

Okay I got the holes done for my 6.5" speakers... no bracket there. I think I was far enough away from it to run into it with as small of a cut as I needed. I just bought baffles for them and will be installing them this weekend hopefully.

There is actually room for a sub. I'm 6'4", 255 and I have my seat all the way back, and I've been using this sub, it's been great.

I've been cranking it daily since October. I don't know offhand how much power I'm putting to it, I just took the manual for the sub with the specs in it to Best Buy and they showed me the amp that would be best. I'm not using any extra batteries for it either.

I installed my 6X9's inside my door behind the crossflow vent. I got the idea from an article in Custom Classic Trucks. With a set of foam buckets siliconed down to prevent water damage, the speakers sound good and are completely invisible. No need to cut holes in innocent doors, and no need to worry if the power window mechanism gets in the way.
