Title: 305 balancer on a Goodwrench 350

My 84 has a goodwrench 350 in it and when I tried to time it the other day my mark on the balance never showed up under the light at the pointer. After some research I figured out the PO used the original 305 balancer on the 350 and its marked at the 12 O'clock position, but the pointer on the timing cover is at the 2 O'clock position.
I ordered a new 350 balancer from Summit (8 inch diameter), and today I started to wonder how thick the new balancer is compared to the 305.
I measured the 305 and it is 1 5/8 inch thick and the new balancer is 1 1/4 inch thick. Its suppose to be here tomorrow, but my fear is the pulleys won't line up unless the hub is the same on both balancers, then all MAY be well.

Anybody messed with this before?   I suppose I could remark the 305 balancer..........

Some 350 balancers were marked for 12:00 TDC.  Your pulleys should be alright.
When I purchase a new one, I compare how the timing mark is indexed to the keyway. (along with the size of course) Or just remark the timing mark.

I'm going through the exact same problem. Jegs recommended a balancer specifically for this engine, I believe the part # is 51653.

The only block difference in a 305 vs 350 is the bore on the block, the cranks are the same, therefore the balancer is also, where the timing mark is located is dependent on what it came out of.

I got the balancer changed out today. The 305 balancer absolutely had the TDC at the 12 O'Clock position, and significantly further to the left (from the front) of the keyway. The new balancer (Summit SUM-161358)  has the TDC mark just slightly to the left of the keyway putting it at the 2 O'Clock position which matches my timing pointer on the front cover.

The thickness did not matter, I pressed it all the way in and it matched the measurement I took before removing the 305 balancer. As far as the face distance from the block, it is 2 3/4 inches on the drivers side. There is a small flat spot just above the oil pan on the block that I used for my measurement.

     Glad to hear you got it changed out, so is the timing correct now ?

Set the timing Friday, I was too far advanced, but now I can see my timing marks and get it right.
