Title: Looking for another daily driver...
Post by: bladerunner on May 14, 2012, 12:11:07 pm
So currently I have 3 cars: a Subaru wagon my wife drives, a 2000 Honda Prelude and my 85 K10.  I alternate between my Honda and the K10, but I usually take the truck.  I am looking to sell the Honda and get a four door car, which will be easier and better(?) for putting a kid into.  The Prelude has a pretty small back seat that has bucket shaped coutours that are difficult to get a child seat into properly (it works, its juts the seat sits at an angle).

Anyway, a cheap 4 door car in my book is like an Accord, Corolla, Camry, Taurus or Impala.  But what I am really interested in is a P71 Police interceptor. I always liked em, they are cheap and hey its got a V8.  My wife doesn't care either way, she just wants me to get a bigger car for shuttling the baby around after I get out of work. She isn't keen on the baby in the truck, hence the need for this car.

Anyone ever owned a P71?  I have heard that Crown Vics have a Pinto backstory to them about getting rear-ended and having the gas tank leak, etc, but hey, we all know those stories aren't always what they seem.

at work our outside patrol they drive around in 971s. they have whole rubber floors, (dont have to worry about spills) bucket seats up front, full bench in rear some still have the cage. some dont have no back seats (for k-9) all in all it has just what it need and nothing more except for ac it does have that. they all the time breakdown but what can you expect for a car that get driven 24/7 with no smoke breaks. and about the gas tank this is true but the 971s where recalled and ford fix that problem with all the 971s. they didnt was to lose that contract

I understood the issue was resolved in 2005 and newer models?  Most of the ones I see have the backseats replaced with normal bench seats with no cage, though I have seen them all decked out with police gear, sans light bar.  Most though look like a typical Crown Vic after they are reconditioned.  The real cheap ones look to either have minimal conversion or have been a taxi cab.

i wana say earlier than that they found the problem like 02 so the 92-03 models where recalled. they take most "police" stuff out when they get rid of them but i have seen fully decked out vics in auctions with lights to the markings. kind of real stupid, kind of setting an idiot up

Very true.  I wouldn't want to be driving around in what is essentially a marked up cruiser.
