I got a free complete engine from a friend who said a guy swapped it out for an inline 6. He has no idea what it is other than its an sbc.
I'm guessing it's a 305 because its got 5.0 on the side. Correct?
Here's the numbers I got off it:
Block:
14093627
J306
V1031CLH
It also has a Quadrajet carb on it:
17087129
2826 jsc
Intake:
14101074
I've looked up all these numbers on Google and can't seem to narrow it down.

Any other info available on it?

305 87-94 2 bolt, Roller or flat tappet cam, one-piece rear seal date 09/30/86, the intake came off a 82-92 chevy car hope that helps just a little more (http://www.naioa.com/v2/modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_twisted.gif)

Thanks. How and where did you figure that out?

I looked up the CLH suffix code on chevymania.com and it says it's from an '87 Chevelle L-69.
Would that be a viable engine to keep to swap with my current 350?
Does it have enough power to push around my '87?

It has enough power, but a 350 makes more sense IMHO. If you have access to a cylinder leakdown tester you could check it out. If all cylinders show minimal leakdown you could put it in as a cheap way of getting around, but don't expect much.

I'll ask my neighbor if he's got one. Thanks.
