I have a 78 TH400 out of a 2 wheel drive RV. It appears to have been rebuilt recently and it came with the rebuilt 400 I purchased. I am wondering if it is possible to install this transmission in my 85 K10. its a 4 wheel drive stepside shortbed and originaly had a 700R4 in it . Can I take the tailhousing off the TH400 and install the transfer case. Thank you

I could be wrong, but that kinda conversion is more trouble than its worth. You'd probably do better to sell both transmissions and buy a 4x4 th400.

How strong do you think a TH400 is.

I've only ever had one go out on me. Tough trans. If the truck is a dd I'd keep the 700r4, a little nicer to the wallet.

The output shaft length is different on the 4x4 vs 4x2, to swap it you have to take it apart completely.

I think it would be easier to just find a rebuilt tranny or rebuild mine. I'm not to sure about my ability to rebuild a transmission in the time I will have to rebuild it.
