Title: Interior color
Post by: 1985GMC on May 27, 2012, 07:45:22 am
Anyone know what color red GM calls for on a 1987 C1500. I bought a new dash pad and need to dye it, but I cant find the color paint that matches.

Have you checked in the "technical pages" section, do a search for "gm heritage".  Look up you year of truck and they more than likely will list paint codes and interior codes.

If you're hoping the new dash pad will match the rest of the interior, it won't.  even if you match it perfectly to the stock color, the rest of the pieces are faded at least somewhat from the elements.  pick the red you like and paint all the plastic pieces to suit.  the new dash can't possibly match whats in the truck unless you paint it all at once.  Even with my 75k example that had been garaged religiously, my color match didnt work even a little bit.

I think the overwhelming choice for interior dyes for these trucks is SEM. They have about 5 colors of red for you to choose from. See if Chris has them  in the store.
