Title: Picked up a complete topend and fuel injection setup from a 91 olds
Post by: travisr1988 on May 30, 2012, 09:28:48 pm
It was from a 91 olds custom cruiser...got the heads, intake, throttle body with injectors wiring harness and ecm off of a friend for free because the car was totalled. Now i just gotta clean it all up, adapt the wiring to my truck and get it all put on...this is gonna be awesome!

I believe 91 was when oldsmobile switched to the chevy engine, so he should be fine.

Yes it was a chevy 305. I'm just trying to get better mileage out of this truck b/c 8mpg is not cutting it. I'm seriously ready to trade it for a s10 b/c of how much gas it drinks

If you're only getting 8 out of a small block, something is very wrong, either mechanically or with your right foot.

Assuming you're reletively sweet to the gas pedal, you may want to check your timing, tune up, carb adjustment, etc. What carb is on the truck? You don't need much more than a 500 cfm carb on a 350.

     x2.  my 74 right now with #1 cylinder sucking oil gets 11 - 12 and it is a 4x4.

My right foot is gentle on this truck, tge carb is a rebuilt quad my dad
rebuilt, has been adjusted. We suspect a bad timing chain so we're replacing that on saturday, it does burn oil and the ••oil pressure drops sometimes at idle and it seems to drink more gas when that happens, it has worn out 235/85r16s on it and a 160°tstat

Nice score on the fuel injection.

Did you get the chain replaced and did it help?

Replaced the chain, found the distributor advance wieghts were siezed and the distributor was burnt up, my dad says the truck shouldn't have been able to run at all. But we fixed it and it's now getting 12-13mpg. next is tires and then we can try getting that F.I. Setup on it.
