Post by: rusty but trusty on June 01, 2012, 07:13:44 pm
I would like to get rid of egr system because my AIR pump died and my truck will not pass inspection and it is still not running great so i figured why not get rid of egr

the EGR valve itself is beneficial to keep in operation. Reduces cylinder temps I think.

The EGR valve in theory is used to burn unburned fuel fumes so emissions are cleaner.  As far as removing it, simple hand tools for the mechanical parts, and if you have a ECM, that would probably require a chip to be burned or at the least the ECM reprogrammed if possible.

A by-product of the EGR valve in correct operation is reduced cylinder temps, was what i should have said.

If you have tbi you definitely need to keep the egr.  Yes it will trigger a SES light.

Are you not wanting to replace the air pump because of cost ?  On a TBI system, the EGR system is important unless you are running a very hot engine and want every available horse power you can squeeze out of it.

i just wanted to remove it because i know it can cause problems and my truck wont even pass any inspection and with historic tags emissions aren't a problem

The EGR system isn't going to cause issues unless it is worn out and you just replace it.
