New to the site and just want to introduce my Burb. I bought this 1987 GMC Suburban V2500 with a 350 from family friends last year for $500. It had sat for around 8 years and just needed some TLC to get it on the road. Here it is the day the tow truck dropped it off.

What a transformation on the burb, very nice job.
-
Welcome from Alaska. Great photo documentation of your 'burb.
-
Day 1 must have been the most rewarding car wash ever! Looks tough as nails now. TBD means "to be determined" to me. What do you mean by that?
-
Yes. The next thing I do in each category is yet to be determined. With each new add on I'll just edit the 1st post to include it.
-
Finally after a month I've got the Burb back. Super happy with the results.

I'm still going to replace the door pockets, armrests, and pulls for black ones then start replacing the seat belts one by one. When I get back from work I'll install the new dash pad.

That looks great! You have done a remarkable job updating that truck. Have you ever shown it to the folks you bought it from? One of the earlier pictures showed your battery with both the top and side terminals being used. What are you doing there?
-
I'm going to wait until its painted to show it to them. The side posts are still whatever was stock and I use the top posts for everything I've added.
-
Got some "new to me" tires. Picked up some Toyo's with about 70% tread left on them for $600. DOT date is 0712. Went up in size too. These are 38x13.50x20's. Feel like I stole them at that price. I feel bad for that 19 yr old kid that sold them to me.

I haven't done anything to the Burb since early last year due to buying a house in the summer but last week I started leaking lots of coolant. Saw that it was coming from a head bolt so I took a socket to see if it was loose or something. Spun freely, broken head bolt, gasket surely shot. 220,000 miles= new crate motor. Ordered it Thursday. Should be here on Friday or Monday.
-
beautiful looking burb. nice work on it so far too.

Is it called a crate motor because it comes in a crate?
-
What happened ? I thought you would have it installed too. ;D
-
Going to swap everything on the ground then throw it in. Should be ready for break in this weekend.

She's alive!!! It fired right up then I drove it a mini 30 mile break in, changed the oil, and now I gotta get another 400 on it and change the oil again. It's running super smooth and feels like it has more HP than the tired motor.
-
Well that is great news, always liked having a brand new motor in a vehicle, almost makes you want to change it out every couple of years.
-
Congrats! A new motor is always satisfying!
