I am doing a frame up restoration of my 87 Chevy R10. Im working on the suspension now and I bought new lower control arms and shaft kit from Rock Auto Parts. When I got them in and tried to install the bushings from the shaft kit I found that the bushings were to big to fit in the hole. Is there something I don't know about?

I don't know about your question except if they are too big they are the wrong ones, which does not surprise me that the parts store can get it wrong. Post up the part # you ordered so we can check to see what kit it is,or better yet set up a link to the site and product.
Also welcome to the site from California.

I think I pretty much figured it out. They are 3/4 ton control arms. If I'm correct they are almost exactly the same except for the shaft kit which I can just buy a 3/4 ton shaft kit and the ball joint. I think my only hang up is the ball joint. Can I use a 1/2 ton ball joint or do I have to go with the 3/4 ton ball joint?

If you are using 1/2T spindles you need 1/2T balljoints. If you want to use the 1/2T bushings you can get 1/2T shaft kit.
