Title: Driveshaft
Post by: RicoTizzio on June 16, 2012, 02:48:00 pm
Installed a 700 in my 84 Chevy that had an overdrive trans from the factory. Should my org shaft fit perfectly in there or will i need modification. Is there a junk yard fix lol

Are you talking about the A833 4 speed overdrive unit ?  If so then no, your driveshaft more than likely will need modifications unless both transmissions were close in length.

Drive shafts are almost impossible to find in junkyards here. One of the local shops quoted me $350 for a steel, one piece shaft, 57" long.

Try craigslist or have one made.

Those are made from some pretty good steel. It takes a lot of rust to make them pitted. Clean it up with something like brake-kleen then use about 180 grit paper to get most of the rust off without making it shiny. Switch to emery cloth and polish it up. Check it for pitting or damage to ensure it doesn't eat your seal up. I had to do the same thing to mine after it sat for a long time in a shed and rusted. I was upset when I found it that way but after 10 minutes of work it was good.

Sounds like a plan. But will the same steps work on the inside of the yoke
