Title: My 84 c10 Silverado
Post by: leafsrule16 on June 28, 2012, 09:05:21 pm
Here's my 84 Silverado I traded my dirtbike for. Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet ... has a fresh 350 and a turbo 350 tranny with a 3.08 open rear, came from the factory as a 305 truck but now has a 4 bolt main 350 out of a camaro with ported heads, big cam, high rise intake and an ederlbrock 650 carb along wtih flat top pistons and a few other things. Here's a few pics, more to come

Thats a pretty clean truck. It looks really good, you must have traded one heck of a dirtbike for it!

That looks like a nice truck.  I have an '84 C10 Silverado (mine is SWB though) and I did lot of work before it looked as nice as yours does.

The funny thing is not as nice as you'd think. It was a 2001 Kawasaki kx125 with a 144 Eric Gorr big bore and a fw other things ... Before I traded I had just ordered custom decals and all new plastics with my name plastered all over them, I guess the new owner will have to tell everybody C. Burke is some famous racer or something. Lol.

Here's a before picture of my old dirtbike when I first got it

Here's it after

Also, here's a few pictures of the truck I took yesterday, looks better with a coat of wax on it

Here's the interior, I lifted the seat cover to show the only place where the seat was ripped. Yes, those are power locks and windows in the background

Welcome to the site.  Very nice truck, with nice options, I think you made a good trade, hopefully you were done riding your dirt bike.

Random Chev noob question but I don't think my cruise is hooked up, is it the little button on the end of your signal light shaft thing? I press it but nothing, not really sure how to work it though. Also I took the seat cover off ,seat is nice. I want to put some exhaust tips out the side and I think I'll leave it looking the way it is besides building a sound system for it.

To answer your question on the cruise control, I believe 84 still had the vacuum operated cruise, so inside the engine bay on the drivers inner fender well should be the module with I believe 4 or 5 vacuum hoses connected to it.
I believe I saw a thread not to long ago on this subject either in the electronic section or general discussion section.

I think gm got away from the cruise controller on the inner fender in the early 80's.  Your '84 cruise should work by pressing the button, as long as you turned it on first.  There should be a small switch on the turn signal stalk:  left=off, right=on, momentary all the way right=accelerate.  If you turn the switch on and then press the button and get nothing, pop the hood.  You should have a round vacuum servo about 6" diameter or so behind the carburetor with a chain or linkage attached to the throttle lever on the carb.  It should have one large diameter vacuum hose that goes into the firewall and another that goes to a vacuum splitter/one way valve.  That splitter should have one hose going to manifold vacuum and another going to a vacuum reservoir on the drivers side firewall.  Make sure all of that is there and intact.

Thank you. I found out how to work it but it doesn't work. There was no hose to my carb, my buddy thinks he can rig my cruise up no problem though.

Thanks! It's lots of fun and the ladies all think it's cool. Always loved these trucks since i was 5 or 6 years old, remember my family's friend had a 77 gmc which may be why i slightly prefer that style truck still to this day. Oh well, got an old chevy now lol.

I think its the same for me. My grandpa had an 86 stepside, and the family travel hauler was a 86 Suburban. The crazy thing was, both had similar paint, and my dad and grandpa hadn't talked in years, then discovered they had similar taste in trucks.

I've had 12 or so of these over the last 13 years, got my first one when I was 15. Most of the 12 were parts trucks, but yeah.

Yeah, I'll make sure I always own one of these. Expensive to run being a student though, may sell it and keep the money to buy one when I graduate and get a real job... currently a university student.

Maybe. My next truck will have to be a high end trim one too though, High Sierra or Silverado.

Amen, brutha. Fortunately, I have my HHR for the MPGs, and since we live in a lake-strewn area with a big yard (new house), he'll always be able to serve some purpose.

I like when I go places a lot of the older lad's like my fathers age all compliment me and tell me stories of their old chevys themselves. Truck is suprisingly fast too, I might take it to run the 1/4th mile, just curious of what it'd do. It seems a bit quicker then my car even with 3.08's in the rear.

Every time I tell my 5 year old daughter about the possibility of trading Earl for a newer model, she reminds me that she wants me to keep him for her to drive when she grows up.
It's almost kinda weird how much she loves that thing, but I've always kinda gotten attached to my vehicles, too.

It's a very clean truck. I wouldn't sale it if I was you, you will regret it.
My regrets selling my 67 Dodge dart GT, My 64 impala, and 74 el comeano.

Too late..... Truck is sold.

Going to try and save up another 4 and get a mint 5.0 mustang from Florida next summer and do a few things to it for a summer toy I guess. Going to miss it though.

Bought back my old dirtbike for $1000, some of the money I got from selling the truck. It needs a connecting rod and a few bearings in the crank .. the top end isn't too bad but I got another top end kit for it to freshen it up (Eric Gorr 144). Working on getting the crank straightened out, should be a win, win, win situation. Probably sell the bike and buy another 73-87.
