Hi all, not been this far down the forum for a while.
With my 3+3 almost complete now I was toying with the next project. I don't do sitting still very well but no idea what was coming next! One of the forum users, Over The Pond (Dave), he's 300 miles away sent me a message saying have you seen this-10 miles from you!
Needless to say I had a trundle over and laid a deposit on an '80 Blazer. Usual stuff required, inner/outer fenders, hood, bodywork and a coat of paint. Oh and an engine and box! The interior leaves a lot to be desired but more basic than I've done on the 3+3.
Gets delivered tomorrow (Monday) but won't start the full strip down until Sept/Oct when I'll find somewhere to store the crew for the winter.
Few pics of what I now own. A K5 in Baby Blue or grey primer!

Congrats!

Ha Ha cheers Chris, I've since found it's a '75 not an '81 as the reg doc states. The government system over here put '75 in brackets on the doco so I now have to contact them and see if they will change it!
Might have storage sorted for the winter for the crew too! Result all round ;D

The 73-75 Blazers are my favorites. I will be watching the build up of this one. Good hunting.

It's the same but different to the crew I've nearly finished. Several points so far, it's got an extra axle and there's no roof lining to make!
In the process of trying to locate panels etc in the UK but as always, everyone thinks they're gold plated. Had a quote for two used doors with glass that equated to appx $700!! Ridiculous stuff. Toying with the idea of importing door skins and see how it goes!
More when i get into it. Gotta finish the crew fully 1st ;)
-
HA, you got the fever Bitzer. ;D If it is a 75 the whole top will come off, after 75 only the rear portion of the top came off. Quick way to tell.
Good luck.
-
Deffo got it bad! The crew was a steep learning curve, lost valuable time and cash messing about and dealing with the wrong people!
I think this time I'll bang a big order in for panels/parts etc and try to keep the costs down.
Got the three spanners ready, 7/16, 1/2 and 9/16 haha
If the Missus allows me the time I'm hoping to start October and have it completed by April next year ready for the summer (if we have one!)

Good evening all, started the rip down on the '75. It's certainly a rare model over here in the UK, not sure how they fair over the pond.
Good points- chassis looks okay and the screen is good! Not really any more good points!
Replacement parts I've sourced- newer doors, new hood and outer fenders, long bed sides that need cutting down to size, an 8x4 sheet of repair metal, welder fixed and a pack of cutting discs!
As it stands, the hood, inner/outer wings have been binned, rear 1/4 panels removed, tailgate & rear floor removed (I need to make a new floor!) and started cutting out the rust.
Will post pics when I work out how to get them off the phone. It looks distressed at the moment!
On a positive note I have a 350 4bolt ready to be rebuilt with some juicy bits.
Deffo not making the same mistakes as the Orange Crew, that took too long!
Catch ya soon

Glad you got started, pics will help know just how much rust you started with. Don't want to discourage you, but you asked, I have seen a 73,74,and a 75 blazer on CL around my area in the last 2 weeks with minimal rust.
But I am spoiled, being in California, as long as they stay away from the ocean, they can stay pretty rust free.
-
Just out of curiosity, how much did the sell for on CL? I'm assuming they were all up together as in clean/tidy.
If Capt Chris reads this I'll ask him to post some pics I sent him!
It's a real rot box, bearing in mind it's been in the UK a while and any previous repairs I've found have been bodges and 2" of bondo!
If you check out the thread by Hotrod24 (I think) his cab is 50% better than this!!
I'll post pics when I get them off the phone :)

These are the one's I came across today in the first 100 postings in the Sac. area only. Not to make anyone upset, but from time to time I see these a lot around here. These were the 73 - 75's, there is a lot more from 76 to 87.

Wow! It might have been to import than build what I have!
Oh well I'm too far into it now to chuck it away & I guess I'll know it'll last another 30 years!
Still trying to get pics up!

Is left hand drive legal in U.K.?
-
Yup, left hand drive is perfectly legal over here. The roads aren't quite as wide as yours so it certainly stands out. The hardest part is overtaking buses etc as you have to cross the white line to see round them!
All good fun tho ;)
