Title: convert manuel windows to power windows
Post by: 81GMCBILL on July 08, 2012, 12:48:30 am
What does it take to convert '81 doors to '85 power windows that I got?
Are the doors the same, other than i will need to bore a hole between the hinges?

Let me back up,  I have a 85 gmc that has power windows/locks but the doors are rusted out,
I have good 81 gmc doors that are manual - that I would like to install on the 85 gmc and convert to power windows & locks.

If I remember correct the bolt holes for the window regulator itself are different, you might have to drill new ones. There is dimples in the A pillar where the screws for the wiring boot go. Hole saw center between them for the harness. You will need the harness out of the power window truck that runs from both doors to the fuse box as well.

I'm pretty sure all you have to do is drill the hole for the harness and the bolts for the harness boot.  I got doors from an '86 gmc with manual windows/locks and put them on my '83 silverado with power.  That's all I had to do as all of the holes for the power stuff was there already.

All the guts from the power will swap to the manual.  You just need to drill the holes for the harness in the manual doors.
