Title: 1986 c10 custom dashpad/gauges info
Post by: bowdown916 on July 08, 2012, 01:04:19 am
Sup guys, I have a question for the people in calif. trucks that still need to be smoged, those inspections done by the smog tech.  Would there be any problems with custom gauges, dashpad  or wiring when doing a smog check/test. I'm just asking people last year the tech didn't even wanted to put it on the machine because I didn't have the dash bezel on the gauges.

Then your smog tech was being a butt head.  What do gauge's have to do with smog ?  A smog tech is suppose to make sure the vehicle passes emission testing for Ca., the highway patrol inspection is suppose to be for instrumentation, lights, safety, etc.

Here in Texas the law for Emissions testing is 24 years or younger. Once a vehicle hits 25 years of age, Emissions testing is no longer required and only a safety inspection is required. I believe the "cut off" year is 1988 so pretty much every 1/2 ton pickup older than 1987 will only have to have Safety inspection. Those crew Cabs and suburbans that are like the 88-91 models will still have to have emissions testing done alongside the safety inspection.
