hey every one, havent been on here in a LONG time. new job, moved, and baby on the way so ive been pretty busy. swaped my 77 body over to an 84 style (baught cab and front clip with title for $300) project is coming along has 7" of lift now. hopefully next week ill be painting it. but any ways back to the reason i started this thread... i have a chance to get some 1 ton dana 70's military for about $300... only thing is i have no experiance with danas i know from reading that for the most part the 60 and 70 are the same but the 70 is just a little bit more beefed up.. they came out from under a 1960's dodge power wagon (pumpkin is on passengers side like my truck) so i was wondering if these might work?? im going to look at them tomorrow and im gonna try and take some messurments. has any one ever messed with these? any advise? and any info on how hard it is to get parts for them? THANKS!!

Dana 70's never came under Chevy's, but if the offset drop is correct anything can be fabricated to work.

That's the main thing I was wondering. Would they be worth the trouble I would go threw to install them?

Do you have a plan to deal with the drum brakes on the front axle?
-
What would there be to worry about? Sorry not use to changing stuff that's not built for that vehicle. He also has a Dana 60 front end from a chevy

Just fyi, the early closed knuckle drum brake D70 is not nearly as desireable as an open knuckle D60. I believe that D70 will not have the big axles (23 spline, I think) like a D60 nor are the outer axles upgradeable to 35 spline like a D60. It my be possible but I've never heard of anybody swap out the drum for disc brakes. I don't think there is very much aftermarket support for it.

That's what I was worried about, don't wanna buy something I can't find parts to fix or have to spend a fortune on buying the parts
