Title: Just how rare are the Longbed Stepsides?
Post by: 73_LongStep on July 22, 2012, 01:22:25 pm
From what I know, there not the easiest truck in the world to find. I checked eBay and came up with nothing. Checked my local Craigslist, and only came up with a 1981 crew cab. So does anyone here know where one could be bought easily? Most preferably in the 1973-1980 range. Thanks.

Sounds like you're looking in the places, patience is key. I'd also look in near by craigslists, They pop up from time to time but aren't very common.

Also search parts listings, you may find a bed that way then swap it over to another truck.

A good site to try is searchalljunk.com

It searches ALL of craigslist and you can narrow it down by region for more reasonable/pertinent results.

Most long bed stepsides I have seen were utility or former utility trucks and C20's.  They were usually retired but if they were sold off they were tired at best.  I had a former electric company truck 1981 GMC 3/4T but by the time I got it one fender was missing so I put a standard bed on it.  Rare in these parts for sure...

Yes, that's my other plan if I can find one. Either that or dish out the money for repo parts. My ultimate goal is to(or at least try to)hopefully find a '73 GMC longstep 4X4(too specific, I know). Or just find any old Chevy/GMC longbed 4X4 from the 73-80 model years, drop a 292 and a TH400 in(if it doesn't already have this setup), throw a '73 grille and emblems on it, refurb the interior to a Sierra Grande(if it isn't already), paint it a nice "Emerald Green", put a 3" lift and some Maxxis 35's on it, and I just might have myself a nice little weekend wheeler... 8)

When in doubt, build whatchya want. I haven't seen any reproduction bedsides for the long stepper, even the initial guys didn't have them last time I looked. That doesn't mean they aren't out there.

My next build is gonna be a i6/700 combo, as long as the title comes through on the blazer.

I read some where they are mostly found in the midwest, old farm trucks.

Zieg nailed
My 8' stepside came off an old utility truck that was sitting in the junkyard.

While browsing Craigslist and other internet ads searching for that ever-elusive truck that I just can’t live without, I stumbled upon this beauty.  Though I’ll admit, most won’t find a longbed stepside attractive, I just have to admit, I like it.  I like it A LOT.  I wonder if it’s because it reminds me so much of my stepside?

Eerie, huh?

By the way, this longbed stepside is located in Kansas.  I can provide the URL if you'd like.
