I took out the sagging headliner in my 86 c10 to have it reupholstered at some point, but seeing how good it looks without one in at all, I'm wondering about just leaving it out altogether. What's the downside to not having a headliner? I'm guessing maybe more cab noise, not as well insulated, and maybe worse acoustics for a stereo? Anything else? Anyone else end up just leaving it out, instead of reupholstering it?

You will want to shoot yourself when it rains, most annoying thing ever, cant even hold a conversation with a passenger.

You covered it all.

My '74 was pretty basic, rubber floor, no headliner. It didn't bother me for the years I had it, but I suppose I've mellowed a bit since then.
I'd still be great with the hose-cleanable floor, but I think the headliner does do a lot to reduce annoying noise.

Never been in the rain with my extended cab... the only truck I ever had with a headliner to tell you the difference. It never bothered me...My $.02

I have had the headliner out of my Suburban all summer and in Texas that roof gets smokin hot. It takes the a/c a long time to cool it down. A pickup doesn't have near the surface area exposed to the sun but it could still heat it up.

The weakness of the Burb with no headliner is the single wall. I could hang meat in mine in the summer...
I added a headliner to my 73, and it help with noise.

If I hung meat in mine it would be beef jerky before long. ;D
It is amazing the difference that board and 1/4" of foam/cloth makes. When I put mine back in I plan to do more insulation above it.

Thanks for the responses. Think I will be dropping it off to get reupholstered tomorrow.

Mine was sagging too so I took it out and was amazed at the beautiful pristine shiny paint behind it, so I've had that way ever since! My truck has been repainted though but I like the look of it better. For sound though, for sure the headliner would be better for acoustics and noise.

I never had a headliner so I don't know. But the roof in mine doesn't get hot inside in the summer. Must be insulated pretty well. The less stuff I have on my truck to break/fall apart/fall off the better I like it. :)

mines been out for a while. i cant hear the rain over the open headers lol

I've got 2 6x9's behind the seat and 2 4x4's in the dash, never had a headliner and it sounds great. Now that i think about it I don't know anyone with a headliner in these trucks :|
