Who Roadtrips their Squarebody? I do. I spend the extra in fuel just so i can ride in my truck.
From GA I've been to Miama,FL , Gulf Shores,AL, Nashville,TN Myrtle Beach, SC, Charleston,sc, Norfolk, VA, Littlerock AR, to Forney,TX.
Who else takes their square on long trips?

When I moved to Alabama back in the mid '90s from New Mexico, I did it with all my stuff packed up in the back of my trusty-rusty '74 K10. Then, it was my DD for 4 years before I bought a newer vehicle. Those commuting trips were 60 miles around.
Since the truck sounded like a washing machine driving down the road, and probably had about the same compression, I stayed on the back roads. Two days, one night in a cheap hotel, and a double-nickel ride across some great landscapes, made for a memorable trip.
Not a single breakdown the whole way, either. Shocked the heck outta me.

I don't take them far, at least till now. I hope to when I get my 86 C10 on the road. Hard to beat free gas in a company car...

In 2009 we did DragWeek putting on about 1200 miles in a week. In 2010 I drove the truck to Columbus, Oh, did DragWeek & drove back home...about 1600 miles in a week & a dozen 1/4 mile passes. Can't beat cruizing the country with some good friends in the old truck! Lorne

I will be driving all the way from Washington state to southern Texas in a few days. I'll be using my Suburban to tow a 72 Chevy truck.

When my R10 was running and before my daughter was born we took it to most shows, for vacations we took here car for more room. When Elizabeth was born, I started getting the Suburban running and we drove it on some trips, then I bought the Crew Cab and we took it to all the Show trips. Going to the beach we took her car. The AC went out in the Burb and I haven't had time to address it, so we only take it when Lizzy wants to, it is her favorite, the Crew has issues with wiring that I haven't been able to chase down, but when it is fixed I will be driving it also.

My truck would be sitting also.... :)
I just enjoy when people get the old cars and trucks and drive them like people would a new car. When I far from home I get comments sometimes to the effect, I can't believe you'd drive that old a truck this far. Well if taken care of and runs right, WHY NOT?
I guess also it may be because this particular truck was bought with the sole purpose of going on roadtrips when Grandad bought it new. I want to carry this tradition on. I love driving my truck, I like my '08 impala good, but it ain't my truck, and never will be!

I've taken my 87 R10 on many a trip to the Mojave, Sierras, up and down the coast, Utah, Nevada and all over California on rock climbing, rafting and camping trips, as well as business. It's always been a reliable beast. Only broke down once, on a remote training exercise for swift water rescue - trashed the input shaft and wiped out the pump stator shaft of my 700R. Still, I was able to limp home before she rolled over and started twitchin. Now, she needs paint so bad I keep her hid in the driveway while I take my time workin on mechanicals. I'll get her rollin again before too long - and head back out. There are still a lot of places she'd like to see. ;)
