Title: Had a real scare Friday 8/31...Driving while drowsy...
Post by: zieg85 on September 01, 2012, 12:39:28 pm
My son learned a very valuable and expensive lessen and praise God he walked away without a scratch...  He was going to school (freshman in college) and apparently dozed off and off the road, down an embankment where it rested.  The car didn't have collision so it is all on him.  That was his graduation present from us and a 3 month search for a good rust free little GM in NW Indiana(most we looked for in our price range was full of rust).  Another reason to get the proper rest and figure out how to manage time for study without staying up till 2AM and leaving for school at 7AM.  The car looks good in the pictures before the tow/recovery got it back with the wheels on the ground. Last picture is the day he brought it home.

Wow. Glad he's ok.

Things can be replaced, people can't. It stings now but at least he's around to be upset.

My son is 22 and just graduated college in May. He went to college 3 hrs away in San Antonio and I worried about every time he drove to school and back.

That's a tough reality check!!  But, as you said, He's physically well save for a little bruising of pride and wallet.  Emotional recovery may take awhile.  I'm relieved and grateful that He's alright.

It's rather amazing the "close calls" we experience in life....

I've gotten two of those phone calls in the past few years! I know how it feels. Glad he is ok, it could have been so much worse.
Looks like you had found him a good little car. I've heard quite a few people say that cavaliers are junk but I gotta tell you that the cavalier that we got for our daughter did it's job and protected her twice. It looks like yours did a good job at keeping him safe as possible too.

Yes it is a stout little car.  Found another about a 2 hour ride one way and bought it.  Great condition body wise but needs an engine.  Brother in law agreed to do the swap so he'll be back rolling in no time.  The green one nicked him $700

Unfortuantly in my experience, most people 18 - 30 or so have to experience things for themselves most of the time.  If only we had genetic properties of our parents, our children would not have to make the same mistakes we did.
It is good that he walked away with only bruising his pride and pocket book.

That is SO TRUE.  It took me till I was 27 to figure that out when I had my big Wreck!  Since then, I drive so much safer and take it easier.  Until then, I was invincible and did a number of incredibly stupid things while feeling invincible.

about 7 or 8 yrs ago I was helping a friend swap an engine Friday after work at work we got don't about 3 so I was driving home (about 1 hour away) and half way I started to nod off so I pulled into a closed gas station. Went to sleep not sure how long, but started to drive again then I opened my eyes from nodding off only to see a row of trees about 20 feet in front of me so I slammed on the brakes knowing I was going to fast to stop then I realized the car didn't lock up the brakes cars momentum didn't keep going. I looked around I never left the gas station I was dreaming that I woke up and started driving again. Now that dream right there woke me up so fast like I just got 8hrs of sleep. I think I had to change my pants after lol. but glad your boy is OK
